Internet of Things (IoT) is a buzzword today, so what is IoT? IoT is a network of physical devices (such as smartphones and vehicles) that connect and exchange data. In practical terms, IoT identifies the ability of physical devices to detect and collect data from the world around us, and then share this data through the internet. Once the data is shared, it can be processed and used for different purposes.
Imagine what it means to have access to any programmable electronic device with connectivity: from the car, to the lights in your home, or to your thermostat. Wherever we are, we can query them, we can control them, and we can command them.
In this chapter, we will see how to program and control the standard references for micro-controllers and single-board computers in the world—Arduino and Raspberry Pi, respectively.
