If you do not have a strong handle on your metadata, measuring data quality, building authorized provisioning points, optimizing architecture, and building authoritative sources for common datasets (i.e., customers or products) becomes a lot more difficult. Thus, it is critical to message the importance of this foundational capability early and often as you advance the maturity of data governance at your company.
