"Aligning Security Operations with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework" is an excellent source of information for anyone looking to improve their organization's security posture. The book is written by Rebecca Blair, an experienced cybersecurity professional, and reviewed by Allen Ramsay, who has specialized in network defense and alert triage."Aligning Security Operations with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework" is aimed at cybersecurity professionals interested in or working in SOC operations and those who want to learn about the MITRE ATT&CK framework. It connects all the information between theory and practice with examples, implementations, and detections. The book covers three main topics: The Basics, Detection Improvements and Alignment with ATT&CK, and Continuous Improvement and Innovation. This book's practical approach to setting up your environment and applying the MITRE ATT&CK framework sets this book apart. It suits security professionals of all levels and covers compliance, purple team exercises, threat hunting, and more. It can help build new security programs or assess the maturity of existing ones.A key strength of this book is its comprehensive coverage of the MITRE ATT&CK Framework. The authors skillfully explain the framework, its significance, and how it can enhance security operations. The author also provides practical guidance on how to align your security operations with the framework, including best practices for building a SOC, threat intelligence, incident response, vulnerability management, network security monitoring, EDR solutions, threat hunting, and metrics and reporting.Another strength of this book is its clear and concise writing style. The author skillfully simplifies complex ideas into easy-to-follow, practical steps for the readers. They also provide real-world examples and case studies to illustrate their points and make the material more relatable. The book incorporates a well-structured and user-friendly layout. Every chapter progressively builds upon the prior one, offering an all-inclusive guide for aligning your security operations with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework. The chapters are clearly labeled and include summaries at the end to reinforce critical takeaways.Overall, "Aligning Security Operations with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework" is an excellent resource for anyone looking to improve their organization's security posture. The author provides sound practical guidance on how to align your security operations with the framework clearly and concisely. The book is well-structured and has a user-friendly layout, making it a valuable reference for cybersecurity professionals at all levels. The writing style of the material and the content level assumes some amount of familiarity with cybersecurity concepts. Throughout the book, the author excels in explaining key terms and concepts. Readers entirely new to cybersecurity may find some of the material challenging. However, this is a minor issue and should not detract from the book's overall value to those just getting started or newly exposed to the study area."Aligning Security Operations with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework" is an exceptional resource for anyone looking to improve their organization's security posture. The authors present practical guidance on how to align your security operations with the framework clearly and concisely. The book is easy to navigate, making it a valuable reference for cybersecurity professionals at all levels.

This book was very well written and clear. A previous review had mentioned it aligns much like a college book, it does. Very easy to follow and understand. The author brings up modern cloud TTPs and what the mean. As well as I was shocked and pleased to see how she covered auditing from a STIG point of view. This is a key point because majority of of MITRE attacks would cease if only the org was hardened and documented their weak spots. Going to use this book to help train my folks. Thank you.

There were a lot of things I loved about this book -- but more than anything I wished I had read this book before I took my CISSP exam!Rebecca does an amazing job breaking down the realities of day-to-day work in a SOC, covering both the people and their typical responsibilities. The breakdown of various threat models would really have helped me to study for those specific sections of the CISSP!As someone who does not work directly in the SOC, this book taught me a ton about policies and procedures. Chapter 7 (Common Mistakes with Implementation) was also very enlightening! I'm really excited to talk to my security team about some of these techniques!Great book, highly recommend to anyone in InfoSec!

This is an excellent book that helps provide a foundational understanding of risk frameworks. This book shows how to operationalize these frameworks by using the MITRE ATT&CK framework. Using this book, you can map your defenses to the attack lifecycle and identify gaps in your security posture. Most importantly, using the language in this book, you can articulate the need to do this at a digestible level to leadership. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an understanding of how to utilize the MITRE ATT&CK framework to ensure coverage over the key risks your organization faces.
