More on the Magic Wand tool
I will use the Magic Wand tool on the following image of the blue hooded man (see Figure 5.6) to give you a better understanding of how selections work in conjunction with the Feather and Tolerance parameters. (Usually, the Quick Selection tool would be recommended here instead for speed):
- Grab the Blue hooded photo reference located in the
Chapter 5

folder and drag it into the Photopea Main area. - Select the Magic Wand tool, and set Feather to 11 and Tolerance to 30. Start with a medium brush size to select the hoodie. Notice it only selects part of the hoodie.
- Hold the Shift key down and continue to expand the selection, or hold down the Alt key while clicking the wand to decrease the selection near the selection area that went outside of the hoodie. This will get the selection as close as possible on the hoodie, and off of the grey background.
- For smaller areas, such as the face, I changed Feather to 5 px and Tolerance to...
