Importing files into LayOut
LayOut can import a variety of file types. The most important one, in our humble opinion, is SketchUp models.
LayOut will import the following file types:
- DWG/DXF files – We don’t have room in this book to go into how to import these CAD files to LayOut, so you can read more about it in SketchUp’s help center: https://help.sketchup.com/en/layout/importing-cad-data-layout.
- Image files in various formats:
- BPM or DIB (bitmap formats) – These are uncompressed raster files designed to display high-quality images.
- JPG, JPEG, and JFIF –
JPEG
files are the go-to format for digital images, compressing them down for easy viewing. - GIF – Did you know this is pronounced jĭf? Yuck. Anyway, they are bitmap rasters that tend to be very pixelated and are mostly used for online posting. While LayOut will import GIF files, don’t expect them to display a looped animation. Only a still image will be displayed...
