Humans want the latest information. We want to hear news as it happens, not days later. It's interesting that as high-tech and special as we think we are, cool real-time apps and gadgets have been around way longer than we think. In fact, it was all the way back in 1881 that the Theatrophone was invented in France so that people could listen to live opera, theater, and news over the telephone lines. In 1884, King Luis of Portugal couldn't attend opera in person, so he used Theatrophone to dial in! You know, this sounds eerily similar to our modern WebEx or GoToMeeting applications!

Today, we can subscribe, trackback, post, ping, poke, and utilize any number of ways to stay in touch and to have news data fed to us. Take social media; we follow our favorite "Tweeps" to hear what they have to say as they say it and we see what our friends are cooking, who they like, and what they're doing today by reading our Facebook news feeds.
