Implementing tuning and best-practice recommendations


After going through the recipes for configuring SCOM in Chapter 3, Configuring System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager, you will now have a number of management packs installed in SCOM. While it is highly recommended that you install only the management packs that you need, many of the base management packs come with rules and monitors that also need to be tuned.

The initial tuning should be performed according to the following guidelines:

  • Devise a strategy and identify the order in which you would like to review and tune management packs.

  • Thoroughly review the management pack guide for each management pack. These guides provide valuable insight into how to best install, configure, and tune the management packs.

  • For each management pack that you plan to install, create an additional management pack in which to store overrides and name it ManagementPack_Override, where ManagementPack is the name of the sealed management pack to which the...
