Previous data gathering and reporting practices included manual clipboard recordings which were often prone to inaccuracies and stale data. IoT smart building technology provides real-time information not only for actionable insights but also for sustainability reporting.
Carbon reporting measures the emissions coming from buildings from activities, such as burning gas or oil and electricity consumption. IoT sensors and devices are used to monitor, collect, and report the data on this and for other sustainability-related reporting. Sustainability data must be consistent, accessible, auditable, and timely. In many countries, the data must be in a machine-readable format.
