The previous three chapters included much discussion and theory about how to approach things when designing your architecture and some of the considerations in getting your initiative started. In this chapter, we will focus on hands-on environmental monitoring, which has slightly different goals than what we might initially consider for industrial monitoring in a manufacturing environment.
For some industries, environmental monitoring may be your primary goal. Agriculture and ranching, for example, are widely diverse industries that depend significantly on environmental factors. Oil and gas, mining, and maritime sectors also have use cases in this area. Even traditional manufacturing needs environmental monitoring that can support the manufacturing effort.
