SAP NetWeaver Building Block consists of BI, which allows companies to work through the Business Warehouse (BW) reporting functionalities within SAP CRM. Additional BI content within SAP CRM also allows an organization to work through Interactive reporting, which helps companies meet their ad hoc reporting requirements.

Generally, SAP BW's reporting functionality is used, which is a separate system connected to SAP CRM. This concept of historical reporting driven by SAP BW is true for many SAP systems, such as SAP TMS, SAP ECC, and so on. SAP CRM transaction data is loaded into the business data warehousing system using standard or custom data sources. SAP has provided standard data sources for each transaction object, such as sales orders, contracts, and quotations. Once the data has been extracted from the data sources, and then transformed and loaded into the BW system, it is stored in the operational data stores or OLAP cubes in the BW system.
