Introducing Real-Time Strategy Games

Video games are highly complex graphic software, and, at the same time, an art form used to create interactive and immersive experiences. They are not easy to develop and most of them are difficult to master. Real-time strategy (RTS) games require the player to think ahead regarding each possible movement that they are going to perform, as well as what the opponent might do in response. “Creating an RTS Game in Unity 2023” is an excellent resource for anyone looking to learn how to create real-time strategy games using Unity. The book does an excellent job of explaining the concepts and techniques involved in creating these types of games, but it may come across as confusing if you’re not confident enough in your coding skills. The author’s writing style is engaging and easy to follow, and the book is filled with helpful examples and illustrations. Although there were a couple of typos, I found the book to be a solid 9 out of 10 or 5 stars overall. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how to create real-time strategy games using Unity.

I have received a copy of this book and I am greatly impressed with the information presented! One thing about programming, you are able to use what you have learned over new projects. The code and the writing is the most organized and comprehensive I have ever seen. I am trying to make a strategy game now, and this was perfect for my project. I enjoyed what I have read. I have been busy, so I only read it, not followed along with it. I will write about my game and this book in my personal blog. Many thanks to the creators and I am satisfied with this book!

I believe that this book can benefit anyone who is looking to create an RTS game. However, I don't believe that a beginner/novice to Unity3D or programming/C# should start with this book.While the book does go in-depth about the programming logic used and much is explained in detail, I believe that without the fundamental understanding of programming basics, and some experience with Unity, a novice could get easily frustrated.The first chapter of the book focuses on setting up the Inspector for ease of level design and for the purposes of populating the level. This information is so valuable because when working with a team, a programmer may be working with individuals who are NOT programmers but game/level designers, using Unity who need a custom interface. As programmers, we can act as the bridge by creating different necessary functions of the Unity Editor. And, being able to change the interface to help streamline productivity is an incredible asset to any game/software development group or solo endeavor.So, final verdict, while it may be too advanced for a beginner, I believe this book is worth its weight in gold. The information is presented in an easy to understand way. Every script is explained in detail. The code presented was easy to copy into Visual Studio Code because I used the digital book on my computer.While the Unity interface is not covered in depth (and that's why I said it may not be easy for novices to follow), the text is sound and the information is invaluable. It can be modified to fit any RTS game and then some.Two thumbs Up!
