A brief introduction to AI history
In classic AI literature, there are broadly eight definitions of AI, and we can categorize them into four categories based on the named properties of the AI systems:
- Thinking humanly
- Acting humanly
- Thinking rationally
- Acting rationally
AI systems are expected to perform functions that humans can perform, but also to act and think rationally, thereby exhibiting intelligent behavior. On the other hand, ML is a set of techniques that enables AI. The techniques of ML are based on designing methods and systems that use data to learn how to perform tasks that exhibit AI. Apart from ML, many other methods contribute to AI, such as expert systems and fuzzy logic. We show a very simple illustration of their relationship in Figure 4.1. By no means is this comprehensive, but we want to ensure you’re aware that AI is a top-level concept that contains many other domains. This book focuses on ML techniques under AI, and how they...
