WordPress, Multisite, and BuddyPress
Throughout this book, we use several different versions of WordPress including a standard WordPress installation, WordPress Multisite Networks, and BuddyPress. The following table highlights the differences between these WordPress installations:
WordPress |
The default WordPress installation creates a single blog site with a single user. It is possible to add additional users to the site, but all contributions, such as new posts and pages, will be made to the same site. |
Multisite |
The multisite feature creates a network of virtual sites from a single WordPress installation. Users are provided with their own WordPress site, which can also be controlled by the WordPress network administrator. |
BuddyPress |
BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin that turns a standard WordPress installation into a social network, enabling features for site users such as an activity feed and private messaging. |
