Adding vShield licensing to vCenter


Similar to other VMware products, vShield Manager will run in the evaluation mode for 60 days before it ceases to function. vShield is somewhat unique in a way that the basic configuration is done in the web interface with further configuration done via the vCenter plugin. Unlike VMware View, the license information is configured within the vCenter Licensing area.

Getting Started

In order to proceed, we require access to vSphere Web Client. The client can be run on any modern Windows desktop operating system or server operating system.

Note

vSphere Web Client requires Adobe Flash, which is not supported on Linux operating systems at this time.

We must be logged into the vSphere Web Client with a user account in the administrators group.

How to do it…

Perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the vCenter Home view.

  2. Select Administration from the pane on the left-hand side.

  3. Select Licenses from the pane on the left-hand side.

  4. Navigate to the Solutions tab.

  5. Select Assign...
