In Summary

As data shifts from spreadsheets to corporate databases, the control of the data shifts from the end user to the IT department. With the shift in control comes a change in autonomy, discipline, accessibility, and other aspects the data.

Data is consistently recognizable across the transformation components by the three following elements:

  • Spreadsheet system name
  • Column name
  • Row identifier

As data passes into the corporate data environment, it is possible to do some light editing that does not change the value of data.

Alternate names can be used to create super classifications of data.

From a volumetric standpoint, there is typically much more “standard” corporate data than there is spreadsheet data.
