Summary
In this chapter, we explored the different types of scams, including the famous advance-fee fraud and investor scams, before diving into newer forms of fraud, such as the Business Email Compromise fraud, which involves hackers gaining access to a business’s email account and using it to send fraudulent requests for payments.
We also discussed other interesting types of fraud, such as compensation fraud and merciless scams, which target people who have already been victims of a scam and who are more likely to fall for this well-crafted secondary scam.
Additionally, we learned about the controversial practice of “scambaiting,” and how this is used to fight back against scammers.
