A widely known quote states that you cannot manage what you cannot measure. AWS Monitoring measures the telemetry and metrics from your AWS Outposts to proactively detect deteriorating hardware and service degradation. However, there are times when things break without warning, and you must also be prepared for this eventuality.
In this chapter, we highlighted that you also have responsibilities related to maintaining your Outposts service as fully operational. As Outposts is a managed service, sometimes we may fall into the comfort zone and think it is AWS’s responsibility end to end to keep the service up and running. That’s true for the most part, but you must never forget your duties as described in the AWS Shared Responsibility model.
