In this chapter, we built a Contact Organizer application that can extract contact information from uploaded photos of business cards. We used two variants of the Amazon Comprehend service, Amazon Comprehend and Amazon Comprehend Medical, to extract different types of contact information. The Contact Organizer has a human-in-the-loop user interface, where the user can review and correct automatically extracted information before saving it to the Contact Store. We noted that the human-in-the-loop user interface should provide business value, even if AI capabilities are not present in the solution. As AI practitioners, we don't always have to provide fully automated solutions—there is value in providing intelligent assistive solutions, which can be much more feasible to build and maintain as long as they are well designed with the human component in mind.
