Preparing the vSphere network for iSCSI multipathing
iSCSI multipathing can be achieved by having two VMkernel interfaces configured with an active adapter each, but no standby adapters.
Once done, these VMkernel (vmk) interfaces should be bound to the software iSCSI adapter. This type of multipathing is needed when you use a single portal storage array such as the HP LeftHand and Dell EqualLogic.

In the vSphere Storage guide, it is mentioned that a virtual machine I/O might be delayed for up to 60 seconds while path failover takes place. These delays allow the SAN to stabilize its configuration after topology changes. In general, the I/O delays might be longer on active-passive arrays and shorter on active-active arrays.
