Debugging strategies

Debugging can be the most challenging part of the development process. Professional .NET developers often spend more hours debugging than writing the original code, so keep that in mind when planning how much of your time you should invest in learning how to write code versus how much of your time you should invest in learning how to debug code.

Identifying and fixing bugs is the core purpose of debugging. Bugs in code can range from minor visual glitches that slightly affect the user interface to major issues that can cause data loss or security vulnerabilities. Debugging helps locate these problems so they can be corrected.

But fixing bugs is not the only use for debugging. For developers, especially those new to a project, stepping through the code during debugging provides a deeper understanding of the application’s flow and logic. Debugging is an excellent learning tool.
