Understanding a shared responsibility in cloud security

Shared responsibility focuses on who has the ownership to interact at a specific level of protection. This might be the physical ownership of equipment or administrative ownership to enable various controls. The level of ownership between the company using the service and the cloud provider changes depending on the type of service that is being consumed by the company.

Before going any further with cloud security and shared responsibility, it is important to understand some terminology. You might have already gained some knowledge of these terms if you previously worked within cloud technologies or have read or taken an Azure Fundamentals or Microsoft 365 Fundamentals course. However, if you have not, and since this is a security, compliance, and identity fundamentals course, you might not be completely familiar with some of the terminology or how we arrived at the cloud.
