Creating a geodatabase
The geodatabase is an Esri data storage format that can be used in the ArcGIS platform. There are three types of geodatabases: Personal Geodatabase, File Geodatabase, and Multiuser Geodatabase or Enterprise Geodatabase.
A personal geodatabase is suited for a single user or small workgroups, which create and manage small-sized databases. It can be read by multiple users at the same time but edited by one person at a time. A personal geodatabase is stored in Microsoft Access data files, and it has the .mdb
file extension. The maximum size of a personal geodatabase is 2 GB (gigabyte), but the performance slows the larger the database becomes, especially when the size goes over 500 MB. Currently, the personal geodatabase is not supported by ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS for Server, Portal for ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Online.
A file geodatabase is recommended for the ArcGIS for Desktop users over a personal geodatabase. A file geodatabase is suited for single users or small to medium workgroups...
