Sustainability
Traditionally, the erection of a new building has harmed the environment due to its energy use for heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation, and other systems. The building environment accounts for 40% of global energy use and an estimated 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. Recently, building architects and developers have focused more on sustainable building practices being energy-efficient and eco-friendly, reducing pollution, and reducing resources.
There are three pillars to the sustainability framework, often referred to as the 3 Ps of Sustainability:
- Planet: This pillar focuses on reducing and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the planet’s resources. ESG’s environmental pillar includes waste management, eliminating toxic hazards, recycling materials, green energy, and reducing carbon emissions.
