Designing a backup solution for resilient storage and database

On distributed cloud platforms, data resides on software-defined distributed storage. One of the fundamental functional requirements is to ensure a resilient and secure backup solution for storage. An efficient backup solution possesses the following characteristics:

  • Performed using specifically designated backup management software to strengthen the security of backed-up information.
  • Different types of data can use different services or software for backup. Different types of data can also have different target storage. However, standard software and target storage can reduce the complexity of a solution.
  • A detailed activity log containing the backed-up data, the date and time of the backup, the backup media used, and its physical location. This can be used for audit and validation.
