Verifiable credentials

Verifiable credentials (VCs) emerge as important tools in the changing world of digital interactions, redefining how we express and authenticate information online. VCs are fundamentally digital credentials provided by trusted bodies such as institutions or organizations attesting to the validity of specified information about an individual. What elevates VCs to a transformative level is the establishment of robust standards that govern their creation, issuance, and verification. These guidelines serve as the foundation for a safe, interoperable, and user-centric digital credential ecosystem.

Consider your driver’s license, a physical document that certifies your identity and privileges. Similarly, we can consider a digital equivalent, a VC; this digital representation contains information about you that has been issued by a trustworthy authority and is protected by cryptographic measures that ensure its integrity and validity.
