One thing about routing that we need to keep in mind when we are deciding to configure dynamic routing in our network, is the convergence time and how quickly our routers can learn about each other's networks. The reason for this is that we need to take in to account some factors such as the following:
- The limitations or the features that the routing protocol is offering.
- Our own network limitations, such as: bandwidth and how many routers are the packets going to traverse. Are our routers up for the job? Are the routers beefy? And what is the percentage of the traffic being used across wide area connections?
So, as you can see, it is not just about choosing the easiest or most popular routing protocol. You must choose a routing protocol that can meet the demands of your network. With that said, it could be a combination of protocols or types...
