Introduction to data modeling


Data modeling is an essential step in the creation of an application like TaskAgile. Through data modeling, we discover the data requirements based on the requirements of our application, and then analyze and scope those data requirements and turn them into data models that define how the data of the application will be stored, retrieved, and updated. Additionally, the rest of the application will be built upon these data models.

In this section, we will talk about the basics of data modeling, including the stages and the deliverable of each stage, and terminologies used in data modeling. After that, we will start the data modeling of the TaskAgile application.

Data modeling stages and deliverables

Data modeling usually consists of three stages:

  • Conceptual data modeling
  • Logical data modeling
  • Physical data modeling
