Advanced Sequential Modeling Algorithms

In the last chapter we looked into the core principles of sequential models. It provided an introductory overview of their techniques and methodologies. The sequential modeling algorithms discussed in the last chapter had two basic restrictions. First, the output sequence was required to have the same number of elements as the input sequence. Second, those algorithms can process only one element of an input sequence at a time. If the input sequence is a sentence, it means that the sequential algorithms discussed so far can “attend,” or process, only one word at a time. To be able to better mimic the processing capabilities of the human brain, we need much more than that.
