Introduction

This chapter discusses how to use the VMware Horizon View CLI to perform several key tasks involving the installation, backup, and recovery of different Horizon View components. Using the information provided in this chapter, we will be able to develop scripts that we can use to silently install View Connection, Security, and Composer servers as well as back up and restore critical configuration data.

This chapter is limited strictly to those commands that are unique to the Horizon View CLI tools and installation packages. This chapter discusses Horizon View command-line tools, such as the vdmadmin.exe application, which offers us some of the same capabilities that are also found in the Horizon View PowerCLI cmdlets. Chapter 4, Managing Horizon View with PowerCLI, will discuss the PowerCLI cmdlets at length, which is why this chapter focuses solely on commands that are unique to the CLI tools.
