Establishing customer-centric foundations
Both Lean and Agile practitioners have stressed the importance of delivering customer-centric value. Therefore, a Lean-Agile conceptual model such as the BASE must similarly place the customer at the center of everything we do.
Figure 9.4, the core of the BASE, provides a graphical perspective of these concepts. The BASE intentionally puts improvements to the customer journey at the center of our enterprise improvement activities. We also show the criticality of having Value Managers and Product Owners orchestrating those efforts.

To further emphasize the importance of coordinating work to support customers’ views on value, the Value Manager represents the customer’s voice in BASE, signifying their role in overseeing improvements across value streams and products and fostering effective team communication.
