Example SIS reference architectures
Major vendors typically offer a total solution, which includes a DCS/SIS. These vendors each have a different architecture and control-safety philosophy. To give an idea of design and architecture in the context of cybersecurity, here are some examples of the most frequently used SIS implementations – as previously mentioned, deployment can range from fully integrated to interfaced or air-gapped safety-control connections.
Vendors typically have their own standards for naming systems within their architecture, though the engineering functions of these components remain the same. In addition, these environments are static, which means that naming conventions, IP addresses, and design all remain the same throughout the system lifecycle.
