Managing updates using custom image templates

Installing updates is an important part of creating a custom image. The service allows IT admins to reuse a configuration that was previously used, which makes it a breeze to create a new, up-to-date custom image and deploy it to your AVD session hosts.

Introducing custom image templates

IT admins that create a new custom image follow a two-step process:

1. Create a custom image template that contains all of the settings that will be applied in the custom image.
2. The newly created custom image template is submitted to Azure Image Builder, a service that reads the configuration of the template and proceeds to deploy a virtual machine, install the OS, and customize it according to the settings in the template.
