Running a Remote Unmoderated Study with User Videos

As we mentioned in Chapter 1, Why Everyone Should Run Remote Usability Studies, in a remote unmoderated usability study, the UX researcher sets up the UX study and analyzes the results, but the participants complete the session when it is convenient for them, and without a moderator present. This allows the study participants to complete the study where and when it is most natural to them. In a video-based study, the participants deliver a user video detailing their experiences.

Video-based remote unmoderated study

This method is lightweight, has a quick turnaround time, and makes it easy to include participants from different locations who complete tasks in their own environments. User videos provide a firsthand account of how the user approaches a task, and of their feedback.
