Serving data requires special attention. It is your users’ first point of contact with the data. Often, it is interchangeably used with dashboarding, but as we saw, there are multiple ways of serving data. A non-exhaustive list in this chapter mentioned reverse ETL, low-code tools, and even APIs.
In this chapter, we discussed different approaches to data democratization (i.e., self-service, report factories). We also discuss how interactive charts can be better and how to avoid making a mess by creating slightly different calculations inside every dashboard. We also explained a framework to turn vanity metrics into actionable metrics. Finally, we spoke about finding a balance between reusability and bespoke processes when you want to make the most out of your data tools.
