The DMN standard
DMN is a standard that defines decision trees and decision tables, which are the two main concepts concerning business rule implementation. In the upcoming sections, we will show how it works and how useful it can be.
The origin and principle of DMN
The DMN standard is in version 1.0 and was published by the OMG (short for, Object Management Group) in September 2015. At the time of writing, the latest validated version is numbered 1.3 and was published in February 2021. Version 1.5 has existed since June 2023, but it is considered a beta version currently. Thus, we will discuss only version 1.3.
Note that OMG is also the consortium behind the BPMN 2.0 standard, which works in conjunction with the DMN standard.
