Summary
In this chapter, we have covered the second part of the utopic information system, namely business process management, after talking about MDM. Though the BPMN 2.0 standard is not much used in the standard LOB systems, it is definitely a mature norm, and the tooling is quite complete for edition and runtime. Sadly, the use of BPMN 2.0 is still not soaring, which is a pity as it can truly help adapted information systems to evolve smoothly. Maybe low-code/no-code approaches will achieve a better result at making functional changes easier and less dependent on IT people; only time will tell.
In the coming chapter, we will cover the third and final part of the utopic information system, which is business rules management. We will show what this expression covers, how it can be integrated with the two other responsibilities, provide examples based on our demonstration information system scenario and, of course, discuss how such a function should be implemented with which software...
