As was previously mentioned, licensing is a complicated topic. If you don’t get it right, it will cost the client a lot of money they weren’t planning on spending, and it can impact an SA’s reputation in the market. There are several tools that are available to SAs that can help you determine how many of each type of license will be needed for a deployment.

Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide

The Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide is the first place an SA can look to determine what types of licenses are needed for a deployment. From this guide, you can find out which security roles require what level of license. The following example shows some of the Finance roles, what the role does in the system, and the types of licenses that can be used to execute the role:
