Advanced selection techniques
The more projects you work on, the more you will realize there is no one-solve-all selection tool or technique for all of your images and photos (although new tools are always being created to make selections and editing easier). You will have to constantly make minor or major adjustments depending on each image’s texture, outline thickness (if it has an outline), edges, lighting, colors, contrast, transparency, and so on.
To be prepared for these situations, let’s start by looking at the Selection Mode options.
Combining selections with the Selection Mode options
Each selection tool has specific parameters that define how selections behave to assist with your selections. For example, when you select the Magic Wand tool, the properties bar for the Magic Wand will appear just below the File menu bar. Just to the right of the Magic Wand icon, you will see four circle icons that represent different selection modes. See Figure 5.18:
