Disclaimer: I know Niklas for quite a while now, and I value him as a pragmatic, hands-on thought leader. The book was a booster on my journey to understanding that IT professionals & leaders can make a difference regarding climate change. And this is also why & how I thoroughly can recommend it as must-read when you are on your journey as well - be it as student or young professional, or as accomplished leader with a mindset to trigger changes.Content-wise, there are for sure better books regarding readability and entertainment. Books like "The Phoenix Project" by Gene Kim or "Amp it up" by Frank Slootman impressed me by the super-fluent reading experiment. This is not what this handbook is about. Yes, I would recommend reading it in one go (part of my journey was on a long-distance flight, which is a strange experience), but you will find yourself stopping & thinking many times, trying to digest both the unvarnished reality & the concrete ideas. However, it is even more valuable to think about this book as a compendium, being a trusted source to re-read about topics like Scope 1 - 3, sustainable IT vs. sustainability by IT and many other important topics.What this book also provide is a kick-start into the growing community around sustainable IT. You will get the foundation to understand the work of sustainableit.org, a growing community of IT leaders that defines & evolves best practices, reference to the work of the hyperscalers & large cloud companies, and interesting case studies. Thanksfully, the understanding of sustainable IT is evolving fast these days, so that I'm looking forward to a revised version pretty soon.
