Introducing and configuring watermarking
Watermarking is a great security control that IT admins can leverage to protect against data leakage. The screen capture protection feature prevents the usage of screen capture and recording utilities, but it does not protect against taking pictures. That is where the watermarking feature comes in. When enabled, it adds a QR code to the desktop of the user. This QR code has the connection ID or device ID embedded in it, which can easily be traced back to the user.
This feature works for Windows 365 as well as Azure Virtual Desktop. The difference between both solutions is that the QR code will contain a device ID on Windows 365, whereas it contains a connection ID on Azure Virtual Desktop. Windows 365 Cloud PCs are always personal desktops and no one but the assigned user can sign in. By resolving the device ID, IT admins can immediately see which user is assigned to the Cloud PC.
