In this second portion of the book (Chapter 6 and beyond), you have all the core tools you need to perform really great edits (fundamentals such as masking, layer knowledge, and so on), and these middle chapters will be just as much art and theory as technical information.
Think of these middle chapters as being tools that will help augment the fundamentals and get your composition skills straight so that your composition is strong in the more advanced chapters, such as color and brush techniques.
