Modifying the Windows Registry

The Windows Registry stores a lot of configuration settings for the operating system. Through multiple stores, so-called hives, user and machine-related settings can be stored and quickly retrieved. Usually the registry is not touched manually that often, but is modified through group policies instead.

It might still be necessary to modify registry settings on the fly to change settings for the operating system as well as for applications.
