Helpful objects

In our current Person object we simply return the variables as they currently exist within the object.

Your components do not have to simply be static in that respect, and can easily perform work for you using the data it currently holds. This could include mathematical calculations, recordset queries, or string concatenations using the existing information.

Let's customize our Person.cfc and include some new methods that will enhance the object and allow us to obtain more information from the Bean.

We already hold the first and last name values within the component, and we can access these individually using the getFirstName() and getLastName() methods respectively.

Let's create a method to return the complete full name of the person by concatenating the string values within a new method.

We also have access to the dateofbirth variable. Let's also add a new method that will calculate the person's current age in years.
