Getting started with XR
The concept of XR came about as a way of referring to a combination of technologies such as AR, VR, and mixed reality (MR), among others. If you are already involved with XR, you might want to skip this section as it is quite introductory, unless you want to review these concepts.
We will explore each of the mentioned terms in the following definitions. All of these technologies involve having something that is not real, and that has been created by a piece of software.
The first non-real thing we could have is an object that is displayed in our real world, such as a sort of hologram or a display (as, it could be a screen or a projector).
Augmented reality (AR)
The user experiences virtually created objects appearing in the real world, or real objects are enhanced virtually. This is usually achieved by providing the objects within some display (such as your mobile phone) or projecting them. Although most current technologies would be visual, other...
