I received an advance reading copy from the publisher, given my interest in this topic, and I’d like to share my thoughts. The Lean-Agile Way is a great guide and roadmap on how to adopt Lean and Agile principles. It provides a deep dive into the mindset and methodology that enable businesses to be more adaptable, efficient, and responsive in today's environment. This book a valuable resource for all roles from leaders at all levels to practitioners looking to drive successful change in their organizations. Given that the book starts by exploring the fundamentals of both Lean and Agile, the Lean-Agile Way provides a strong foundation for understanding Lean-Agile principles. Additionally, the authors place a heavy emphasis on leadership, mindset, and organizational culture, which is important for any transformation. It is apparent the authors are not academics but rather practitioners with years of practical, pragmatic experience. They put a great deal of information into this book including Lean, Agile, and Value Stream Management principles that are clear and easy to understand. While there are many aspects of the book that I appreciated, one example is building in little things like "knowledge checks" via Summary, Questions and Answers at the end of each section. I also appreciated the agnostic approach as too often we get bogged down in the methodology and not looking at the principles. This book is structured into four parts, progressing systematically from foundational concepts to advanced strategies for organizational transformation. A Lean-Agile transformation requires more than just following certain practices or implementing new tools; it demands a shift in thinking. The book stresses the importance of customer-centricity, continuous improvement, and empowering teams while outlining key principles that guide Lean-Agile transformations, such as respecting people, delivering value quickly, and ensuring quality at every junction. The book also emphasizes that leadership plays a crucial role in any Lean-Agile transformation. Leaders must model the behaviors they want to see in their teams, such as openness, transparency, and adaptability. The Lean-Agile Way is a great read if you are looking to understand and adopt Lean and Agile principles. The book balances the theoretical foundation with the practical steps necessary for a successful transformation. There is a reference in the book regarding "finding shelter" by "Living in a Lean-Agile House" via the "House of Lean-Agile". Phrasing like "finding shelter" connects to the reader and is written in easy to understand terms. While it may not provide detailed step-by-step instructions, it offers a wealth of knowledge on how to think about and approach Lean-Agile transformation.

I received an advance reading copy from the publisher, given my interest in this topic, and I’d like to share my thoughts on the book.“The Lean-Agile Way” merges Lean and Agile concepts from their manufacturing and software origins, positioning IT as a monetizing mechanism with tools like Value Stream Management (VSM). The emphasis on reducing waste is not about cutting staff but eliminating non-value-added work to optimize workforce utilization. This was a key takeaway from the book for me as I have seen fragmented value streams kill productivityThe authors introduce new terminologies such as BLAST (Basic Lean Agile Solutions Team), a framework and pattern language designed to help organizations coordinate the activities of multiple teams involved in product delivery. Another concept is BASE (Business Agility System for the Enterprise), a conceptual model and pattern language aimed at orchestrating the activities of multiple teams in product delivery.Additionally, the book expands the application of Agile principles beyond software development, demonstrating their relevance in various business contexts.
