How to copy statistics


Collect statistics can be prefixed and used with many commands. It helps to use collect stats efficiently. Some privileges need to be granted when using these commands.

Let us suppose you are tuning a query which involves some terabytes of tables with 100 million rows. You have a requirement to change the PI, or to add a PPI, or to change the joining conditions, to analyze the query. Without changing the definition of the table, you are not able to check the explain plan. The only way you can achieve this is by changing the table structure, which needs a lot of resources and needs to be done during off-peak hours. And you don't even know if changing the DDL will work. So, to achieve this, we can create a copy of the table with the changed PI and copy just stats with no data.

Getting ready

Connect to the Teradata database via Studio or SQLA. Identify tables which stats need to be copied to, and the table from which stats needs to be copied. Both tables from which stats...
