The system approach


An organization run by a system is open and streamlined. The system is applied across all departments and users. There are still specific departments or roles with proper security associated that perform their tasks, but the information they enter and manage is not restricted from the other departments that need the information. All the information required for a department to properly manage and make decisions is available to them, whether produced in their department or not. A system approach means that all departments within an organization are responsible for the outcome of the project; there are no hidden agendas.

Organizations that use spreadsheets and word documents are typically operating silos. These documents are owned by an individual or department and typically are not available to all parties that could use the information. If the information were placed in a system, the information required would be available and efficient management becomes possible.
