Dictate
For Microsoft 365 subscribers who speak faster than they type, you might find Word's Dictate feature helpful when drafting documents in the early stages of writing. It is a useful way to get your thoughts and ideas onto paper quickly, without having to scrutinize or worry about sentence-level correctness, structure, or formatting.
What you will need before getting started
To compose documents using the Dictate feature, for best results, you will need a quiet environment. Other voices in the room have the potential to get picked up on the microphone. That said, for even better results, you will need a good microphone. While we have had success using the built-in microphones on our laptops, we have found that a headset microphone works best.
Starting dictation
To set up the dictation feature, perform these steps:
