Determining roles in data and analytics projects (and teams)
The field of data and analytics is shifting. From our point of view, it’s not a project that can be done by just one person anymore. The roles are different; in this current era, we need more specialists in specific areas. The roles within a project can differ, and a person can have multiple roles in a project (or in their daily activities in the data and analytics team).
We see the following basic roles for data and analytics projects:
- Data and analytics manager/CDO
- Project manager/leaders (overall and technical)
- Product owner/Scrum master
- Data and analytics architects
- Data analyst/business analyst
- Data integration specialists
- Data visualization specialists
- Privacy and security specialists
- Data stewards
- Data owners/process owners
- Usability experts
- Trainers
- Business analysts and business users (we need them to have that buy-in within the organization...
