Integrating with the ecosystem
The Kubernetes (and more generally, cloud-native) ecosystem is massive, consisting of hundreds of popular open source software libraries, and thousands more fledgling ones. This can be tough to navigate since every month brings new technologies to vet, and acquisitions, rollups, and companies going out of business can turn your favorite open source library into an unmaintained mess.
Thankfully, there is some structure in this ecosystem, and it's worth knowing about it in order to help navigate the dearth of options in cloud-native open source. The first big structural component of this is the Cloud Native Computing Foundation or CNCF.
Introducing the Cloud Native Computing Foundation
The CNCF is a sub-foundation of the Linux Foundation, which is a non-profit entity that hosts open source projects and coordinates an ever-changing list of companies that contribute to and use open source software.
